Rashida Tlaib Secures Democratic Nomination in Michigan’s 12th Congressional District
Palestinian American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has won the Democratic primary for Michigan’s 12th Congressional District, defeating former state lawmaker Shanelle Jackson and Inkster Mayor Byron Nolen.
The victory clears the way for Tlaib to seek a fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives in the November general election. She remains one of the most prominent progressive voices in Congress and the first Palestinian American woman elected to the U.S. Congress.
Tlaib’s primary campaign focused on issues including healthcare, workers’ rights, environmental justice, and continued advocacy for Palestinian human rights. Despite facing challengers who argued for new leadership, she secured the Democratic nomination in the heavily Democratic district.
