Obaapa Fatima Amoadu crowns Ekumfi Otuam Akwambo Festival with football competition
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Cocoa Processing Company, and Founder of Obaapa Fatima Amoadu Foundation (OFAF), Fatima Amoadu, has sponsored a football competition for teams in and around Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region, as part of activities marking the community’s 2026 Akwambo Festival.
The three-day competition, held from October 5 to 7, 2026, brought together teams from the community and surrounding areas as part of efforts to promote sports, unity and community development.

As part of her sponsorship package, eachof the 10 teams that participated in the competition received a set of football jerseys.
She also provided medals for the winners and the two runners-up, while the eventual champions received a trophy.
In addition, cash prizes were presented to deserving teams and individuals who distinguished themselves during the competition.
The tournament was crowned with a kenkey party for the players and their managers, providing an opportunity for them to come together and celebrate the successful completion of the competition.

Speaking after the competition, Obaapa Fatima Amoadu said she was excited by the talent and enthusiasm displayed by the players throughout the tournament.
She expressed optimism that the competition would grow into a platform for discovering and nurturing talented young footballers from Ekumfi Otuam and beyond, with some eventually progressing to the national team.
“I am truly excited by the talent and enthusiasm displayed by the players throughout this tournament. It is my hope that this competition will continue to grow and become a platform for discovering and nurturing talented young footballers from Ekumfi Otuam and beyond.
“With sustained support and development, I believe some of these young talents can go on to represent our region and, ultimately, the national team,” she said.

The leader of the organising team, John J.K. Koomson, expressed appreciation to Obaapa Fatima Amoadu for her support, describing the sponsorship as unprecedented in the history of the community.
He said former players traditionally had to mobilise their own resources to organise the gala, but the sponsorship had eased the burden on the organisers this year.
“Mostly, we, the old players, have to put resources together to organise the gala. But this year, Obaapa has supported us and things have been smooth for us,” Mr Koomson said.
The Assembly Member for the area, Destiny Abeiku Nunoo, also commended Obaapa Fatima Amoadu for what he described as her continued benevolence towards the people of Otuam.

He noted that her support for the football competition was not an isolated gesture, citing previous interventions aimed at empowering young people in the community.
According to him, Obaapa Amoadu had previously sponsored about 20 young women from Otuam through apprenticeship training, with the beneficiaries receiving start-up equipment after completing their training.
“What she is doing is not new to the people of Otuam. You remember that she took about 20 of our young girls and they graduated last year at Mankessim. I’m sure there is more she will do after this. We thank Obaapa Fatima very much,” Mr Nunoo said.

He expressed optimism that her continued support would contribute to the development and empowerment of young people in the community.
