𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗞𝗔𝗧𝗛, 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗶 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀

The Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Ayensu-Danquah, has visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Kumasi South Hospital at Asokwa as part of efforts by the Ministry of Health to strengthen maternal healthcare delivery and accelerate the reduction of preventable maternal deaths.

The visits formed part of activities marking the first day of her engagement in the Ashanti Region, with particular focus on high-burden referral facilities that provide critical maternal and newborn healthcare services.

At both facilities, the Deputy Minister engaged hospital management and frontline health professionals to gain first-hand information on the challenges confronting maternal healthcare delivery. Discussions centred on emergency obstetric care, referral systems, infrastructure, staffing and other factors that influence maternal and newborn health outcomes.

The health professionals called on Government to expedite the completion of the Sewua and Afari Hospitals, noting that the facilities would help decongest KATH and strengthen access to quality healthcare services within the region.

Hon. Ayensu-Danquah assured the hospital authorities and health professionals of Government’s commitment to addressing the challenges affecting maternal healthcare delivery and improving the capacity of health facilities to provide timely and quality care to mothers and newborns.

As part of the visits, the Deputy Minister toured the labour wards, outpatient departments and other key units of the hospitals. She also interacted with patients on the wards, providing an opportunity to hear directly about their experiences and the care they were receiving.

The engagements at KATH and Kumasi South Hospital brought the first day of the Deputy Minister’s visit to the Ashanti Region to a close, with the interactions providing valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities for improving maternal healthcare delivery in the region.
