Kenneth Gilbert Adjei Assumes Office as Defence Minister

Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has formally assumed duty as Minister for Defence, following a warm reception from the management and staff of the Ministry of Defence.

Mr Adjei, who had previously been at the ministry as a deputy minister in President Mahama’s first term, takes over the ministry following the tragic death of his predecessor, Dr Edward Omane-Boamah, who lost his life in a helicopter crash in August last year.

In the period following Dr Omane-Boamah’s death, the Minister for Finance and then Acting Defence Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, took charge of the ministry’s affairs pending the appointment of a substantive minister.

Mr. Adjei’s assumption of office therefore brings to an end the interim leadership arrangement at the Ministry of Defence.

He is expected to work closely with the management of the ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces to provide strategic leadership and advance the government’s defence and national security priorities.

Management and staff of the ministry welcomed the new minister and expressed their readiness to work with him as he begins his tenure.

Mr. Adjei is expected to engage key stakeholders and familiarise himself with ongoing programmes and priorities as he settles into office.
