GJA to Open Entries for 30th Media Awards

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will next week officially open entries for the 30th edition of the GJA Media Awards.

The President of the Association, Albert Dwumfour, announced this at the GJA @ 77 Anniversary Symposium, describing the upcoming awards as a special edition because it marks three decades of the Association’s celebration of journalistic excellence.

Mr Dwumfour urged members of the Association who are in good standing to begin preparing their best stories and productions for submission and consideration for honours.

He also encouraged members who were not currently in good standing to regularise their membership status to enable them to participate in the awards.

A significant change to this year’s awards is the introduction of online submissions through the GJA’s new website.

According to Mr Dwumfour, the move forms part of the Association’s broader digital transformation agenda and is intended to make the awards process more accessible, efficient and transparent.

He said the awards would continue to provide an important platform for recognising excellence in Ghanaian journalism.

The GJA Media Awards recognise journalists whose work demonstrates professionalism, courage, innovation and commitment to the public interest.

Mr Dwumfour also used the occasion to call on corporate Ghana to partner with the Association for the historic 30th edition of the awards.

He said the anniversary edition would celebrate three decades of journalistic excellence while providing corporate Ghana with an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to a credible, professional and sustainable media industry.

The GJA President further reminded journalists that excellence in journalism should not be measured only by speed or audience reach.

He said courage in journalism sometimes meant having the discipline to wait, verify information and publish only when the facts were established.

The 30th GJA Media Awards form part of the Association’s continuing efforts to promote professional standards and recognise journalists whose work advances the public interest.
