Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães after reaching a verbal agreement on a deal worth £75 million, according to reports.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has reported that all parties have agreed to the move, with Arsenal now preparing for the Brazil international to undergo a medical later this week.

The 28-year-old has been a long-term target for manager Mikel Arteta, who is understood to have identified the midfielder as a key addition to strengthen Arsenal’s squad ahead of the new season.

Reports suggest that personal terms were agreed earlier in the summer, with Bruno expected to sign a long-term contract once the remaining formalities are completed.

Since joining Newcastle from French side Lyon in January 2022, Bruno has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders. His performances have helped Newcastle qualify for European competition, while his leadership qualities have also seen him captain the club on several occasions.

Known for his composure in possession, passing range and defensive work rate, the Brazilian is expected to add experience and quality to Arsenal’s midfield as Arteta continues to reshape his squad.

Neither Arsenal nor Newcastle had officially confirmed the transfer at the time of writing. The move remains subject to the successful completion of a medical examination and the signing of the necessary paperwork.

If completed, Bruno would become one of Arsenal’s highest-profile signings of the summer and another statement of the club’s ambition to compete for major honours in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
