George Afriyie Slams Kurt Okraku Over Assessment of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Campaign

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has strongly criticised GFA President Kurt Okraku over his assessment of Ghana’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the Black Stars’ campaign should not be viewed as a success.

Speaking in an interview with Adom TV, Afriyie said he was shocked to hear Okraku describe Ghana’s tournament as a positive one after the Black Stars progressed from the group stage before suffering elimination in the Round of 32.

“I was shocked when I heard the FA president, Kurt Okraku, say that we had done well,” Afriyie said.

“Why do we have an FA president who thinks that qualifying from the group stage to the Round of 32 is an achievement? I’m so shocked.”

Afriyie also questioned Okraku’s readiness when he assumed office as GFA president, arguing that the football administrator should have gained more experience before taking on the role.

“He was a newcomer. He needed to take his time, go through the ranks, and learn. I think he believed he had already arrived, but he hadn’t,” he said.

The former GFA vice president’s comments are likely to reignite debate over the Ghana Football Association’s leadership and the standards by which the Black Stars’ performances are judged. His remarks add to the growing scrutiny surrounding Ghana football following the team’s World Cup campaign.
