Joseph Esibu Wins NPP Central Regional Chairmanship Election

Joseph Esibu has been elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region after securing 278 votes in the party’s regional executive elections held at the Mankessim Astro Turf. His closest contender, Percival Dennis Quaicoe polled 161 votes.

He secured the position in his second attempt after failing to make the mark four years ago. He had previously served the party as the Central Regional treasurer in the preceding term.

Kojo Halm emerged as the First Vice Chairman with 271 votes, defeating K. K. Bondzi, who obtained 167 votes. Evans Addison had withdrawn from the contest before voting.

For the position of Second Vice Chairman, Meshack Kweku Amoafo won with 220 votes. Samuel Ghartey polled 120 votes, while Betty Adwoa Nyantakyiwaa received 97 votes.

Richard Takyi Mensah retained his position Regional Secretary with 283 votes, defeating Armstrong Esaah, who polled 157 votes.

Charles Odoom also secured victory in the Deputy Secretary race with 257 votes against Eunice Darkoh’s 178 votes.

In the Communications Officer contest, Asiedu Agyeman emerged victorious with 233 votes. He defeated the incumbent, Isaac Mensah polled 118 votes, while Kweku Noah received 85 votes.

Anthony Sackey recorded the largest margin among the contests announced, winning the Organiser position with 333 votes against Anthony Appiah’s 72 votes.

Francis Asare was elected Treasurer after polling 244 votes, beating Mustapha Mohammed, who secured 196 votes.

In the Women Organiser race, Charlotte Adwoa Antwi won decisively with 302 votes to secure her third term in the position, defeating Caroline Aboagye, who polled 136 votes.

Odeneho Kwakye emerged Youth Organiser with 189 votes. Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Lawrence Edutuah Essiaw, followed with 131 votes, while David Essandoh obtained 118 votes.

King Dgagada won the Nasara Organiser position with 207 votes, ahead of Semila Kabiro, who polled 161 votes, and Abubakar Osman, who received 70 votes.

The election comes at a critical period for the NPP as the party seeks to rebuild and reorganise its structures following the 2024 general election defeat.

The new regional leadership will therefore face the task of uniting competing interests, strengthening grassroots mobilisation and restoring confidence among supporters as the party prepares for the next general election.
