Omanhen Urges Public to Visit Enyan Abaasa for Unique Festival Experience

The Omanhen of the Enyan Abaasa Traditional Area, Okomankra Kwame Akonu X, has called on the public to visit Enyan Abaasa and experience the ongoing Abaasa Festival, describing its customs, traditions and Asafo displays as unique among the Fante states.

He made the call on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during an interview with the media at a gathering of chiefs and community members who had assembled to witness an Asafo display as part of the festival activities.

According to the Omanhen, the festival provides an opportunity for visitors to experience the rich cultural heritage of the Enyan Abaasa Traditional Area, particularly the distinctive displays by the various Asafo companies.

“Abaasa Festival is very unique. Even the way the Asafo companies display tells you that we are different. I am therefore calling everyone to come to Abaasa. Even if you cannot come to witness the weekday programmes, come over the weekends.”

The festival is currently ongoing, with various activities scheduled for each day. The celebrations will climax with the grand durbar on Saturday, September 5, 2026, during which chiefs and queenmothers are expected to be paraded.

The Omanhen also used the occasion to caution patrons against attending the festival with negative intentions, particularly those who may seek to take advantage of young women in the community.

He advised men who intend to impregnate young girls and abandon them to reconsider their plans, urging them instead to pursue responsible relationships.

“If you are coming with the intention of impregnating young girls and leaving them, please reconsider your decision,” he cautioned.

He said he welcomed genuine unions between visitors and women from the community, stressing that those interested in finding partners should approach such relationships with sincerity and responsibility.

The Omanhen therefore encouraged the public to make the trip to Enyan Abaasa, especially over the weekend, to witness the rich cultural displays and other activities lined up for the festival, culminating in the grand durbar on Saturday.
