Ajumako-Bisease Chief Osabirama Damfo Baah VII Restored After House of Chiefs Ruling
The Chief of Ajumako-Bisease, Osabirama Damfo Baah VII, has been restored following a ruling by the Central Regional House of Chiefs on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The ruling has sparked jubilation in the town, with residents welcoming the outcome with excitement and renewed hope for peace and development.
Nana Damfo Baah VII was also awarded costs of GH¢15,000.
Background
The dispute dates back to March 25, 2025, when a section of elders allegedly broke into the palace, performed rituals involving charms and subsequently announced through the media that the chief had been destooled.
The group later allegedly broke into the sacred room and took away the black stool, a symbol of traditional authority.
According to charges filed at the Mankessim Circuit Court, the individuals also took some of the chief’s personal belongings, including cash.
Legal battle
In a subsequent legal move, the individuals involved in the dispute filed a suit against the embattled chief before the Judicial Committee of the Ajumako Traditional Council.
They also sought an interlocutory injunction to prevent him from performing official duties as a traditional ruler.
The decision of the Traditional Council to uphold the injunction prompted Osabirama Damfo Baah VII to seek redress at the Central Regional House of Chiefs.
The latest ruling has gone in his favour, paving the way for his restoration and marking a significant development in the protracted chieftaincy dispute.
Calls for peaceful celebration
Speaking on behalf of Nana Damfo Baah VII, the Nyimfahen of Ajumako-Bisease, Nana Essuman Nkrantse V, expressed satisfaction with the ruling and urged residents, particularly the youth, to celebrate the outcome with decorum.
“We thank God and Nananom for helping us throughout the court case. I am happy with the outcome, and I know you are happy as well.
“But let me tell you this: you have to be careful in your celebration. Make sure you do not attack anyone, knowing very well the mood of the other side at this time,” he cautioned.
His remarks underscored the need for restraint and peaceful coexistence following the ruling, amid concerns that the outcome could heighten tensions between the opposing sides.
Youth express optimism about development
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the youth, Kofi Seedof, described the ruling as a victory for the entire community and expressed optimism that it would accelerate development in Ajumako-Bisease.
“For one and a half years now, we have had to go through this. This victory is not only for Nana Damfo Baah but for the entire community. I know it will accelerate the development of Bisease,” he stated.
The restoration is expected to usher in a new chapter for Ajumako-Bisease as residents look forward to peace, reconciliation and progress.
With traditional leaders and youth representatives calling for restraint, attention is now expected to shift towards rebuilding trust, resolving divisions and uniting the community behind its development agenda. Residents have been urged to put aside their differences and ensure that the chieftaincy dispute does not undermine the peace and progress of the town.
