Business Mogul and Media Owner Kwabena Kesse Reportedly Dies at 68

Ghanaian businessman and media owner, Stephen Kwabena Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, has reportedly died at the age of 68.

Multiple Ghanaian media outlets reported his death on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with Graphic Online reporting that the Chief Executive Officer of the Kessben Group of Companies died after an illness.

However, the exact cause of death has not been officially disclosed.

Born on September 12, 1957, Kessben built a significant business empire over more than three decades, with interests spanning media, education, hospitality, transportation, finance and other sectors.

His Kessben Group of Companies comprises businesses including Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Limited, Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult and the Kessben Foundation.

He was also a major player in Ghana’s media industry, with interests in Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV. He was reported to be the sole shareholder of Kessben FM Limited, under which the media businesses were registered.

Beyond business, Kessben was known for his philanthropic activities and public service. He served on Ghana’s National Peace Council from 2004 to 2010, according to reports.

News of his reported death has triggered an outpouring of tributes, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where he was based and built much of his business empire.
