IGP Promotes Police Officer for Saving Lives During Aboso Fire Outbreak

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Police Headquarters to the rank of Chief Inspector in recognition of his bravery during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.

The incident occurred on August 26, 2026, when fire engulfed several shops at the Aboso Main Lorry Station, causing extensive damage to property.

Inspector Atubra was reportedly the first police officer to arrive at the scene. He immediately joined efforts to rescue people trapped in the affected area and helped evacuate victims to safety.

His swift and courageous actions drew commendation from eyewitnesses and members of the public, leading to a recommendation for his promotion.

The promotion, according to the Police Administration, recognises Chief Inspector Atubra’s courage, quick response and dedication to saving lives and property.

The gesture also underscores the Police Administration’s commitment to recognising and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional bravery, dedication and commitment to duty.
