Mfantseman NPP Elect New Executives after Prolonged Legal Battle.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mfantseman Constituency has elected new executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years, bringing an end to a prolonged impasse over the constituency elections.

Frederick Yaw Berchie, also known as Wofa Yaw, emerged as the new Constituency Chairman after securing a landslide victory with 1,019 votes against the incumbent, Nathaniel Owusu, who polled 208 votes out of the total valid votes cast.

The election was one of the outstanding constituency elections of the NPP following weeks of legal battles and unresolved issues that delayed the process.

The controversy surrounding the election was further heightened when Mr Owusu and his supporters boycotted the exercise and failed to appear at the polling centre.

In the first vice-chairmanship contest, David Awotwe also secured a convincing victory, polling 1,001 votes to defeat John Afful, who obtained 229 votes.

Emmanuel Eduful Esah was elected Second Vice-Chairman after polling 698 votes. He defeated Robert Ebo Ben-Nyarkoh, who secured 312 votes, while the third candidate obtained 223 votes.

The contest for the Constituency Organiser position was much closer, with Peter Kwesi Kweigyan emerging victorious after polling 497 votes. His closest contender, Emmanuel Prince Andoh-Cann, obtained 484 votes, while Benjamin Kobina Abakah polled 248 votes.

The other executives elected are Anthony Nelson Baisie as Secretary, Rita Ekua Ofori as Women’s Organiser, Eric Opoku Boateng as Assistant Secretary, Isaac Clement as Youth Organiser, Frederick Abeiku Essilfie as Communication Officer and Alhaji Talhatu Ibrahim as Nasara Organiser.

Speaking to the media after the election, the newly elected Mfantseman Constituency Chairman, Wofa Yaw, expressed gratitude to the delegates for giving him an overwhelming endorsement.

He pledged to extend a hand of fellowship to his contender, Nathaniel Owusu, and members of his team in an effort to unite the party and strengthen its chances of retaining the Mfantseman seat for the NPP.

“It’s very unfortunate that my contender and his team members are not here. It would have been good if he was. Nevertheless, I will pick him and his team along so we build a united party,” he said.

The organizer, Peter Kwesi Kweigyan, pledged to mobilize the party’s base. He aimed to unite them to win the 2028 general elections and recapture Mfantseman seat for the NPP.

Meanwhile, the Electoral and Research Officer in Central Region, Prof Enoch Duodu, lauder the process, stating the it was largely successful. He added that the NPP is a good position to win the 2028 elections despite the pockets of incidents witnessed in the party reorganisation. He described the situation as characters associated with human institutions like the NPP.

The attention of the party now turns to the regional elections scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 16 across all the 16 regions in Ghana.
