Zenator Gets Ministerial Appointment in Mahama’s first Reshuffle

The Member of Parliament for Krottey Korle, Dr Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings, has been nominated for appointment as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.

The daughter of the first president in the fourth Republic will replace the late Murtala Ibrahim. Ibrahim perished with seven others in the helicopter crash in August last year.

The appointment forms part of the latest ministerial changes announced by the President as he seeks to strengthen his administration and improve coordination in key sectors.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, a medical doctor and three-term MP, brings to the portfolio parliamentary experience and a long-standing interest in environmental issues.
She has served on Parliament’s Environment, Science and Technology Committee and has over the years been involved in initiatives aimed at addressing environmental challenges, particularly flooding, sanitation and plastic waste.

Her elevation to the ministry is expected to place her at the centre of the government’s efforts to address some of the country’s pressing environmental challenges while advancing science, technology and innovation.

Environmental advocacy
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings has previously advocated stronger measures to protect the environment and improve the management of plastic waste.

In Parliament, she has also highlighted the need for practical interventions to address flooding and environmental degradation.
In 2025, she told Parliament that she had collaborated with the University of Ghana on a project in the Osu-Alata electoral area to convert plastic waste into fuel. She subsequently invited the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology to visit the facility.

Her experience in such initiatives is expected to inform her approach to the new assignment.
