Prof. Ransford Gyampo Says Ghana’s Democracy Is ‘Thriving, Not Under Siege’

Professor Ransford Gyampo has asserted that Ghana’s democracy remains strong and is not under threat, dismissing claims suggesting otherwise.

In a post shared on his Facebook wall, the political scientist argued that attempts to organize demonstrations by transporting people to participate are merely political tactics aimed at creating the impression that the country’s democratic system is under attack.

According to Prof. Gyampo, such actions are “a useless face-saving tactic” by political leaders who are struggling with what he described as a legitimacy deficit within their own party.

“Ghana’s democracy is thriving and not under siege. Any attempt at busing people to walk, under the guise of demonstration to trumpet it as being under attack, is a useless face-saving tactic by leaders who currently face legitimacy deficit in their party,” he wrote.

His comments come amid heightened political discourse over governance and democratic accountability, with various political actors expressing differing views on the state of Ghana’s democracy.

While Prof. Gyampo did not identify any specific political party or leaders in his post, his remarks have sparked debate on social media, with supporters and critics offering contrasting interpretations of the current political climate.
